Indiana Governor-Elect, U.S. Representative Mike Pence is donating congressional papers and memorabilia to IU's Modern Political Papers collection at the Herman B Wells Library on the Bloomington campus. Death row prisoners at the Indiana State Prison received Christmas bags filled with holiday treats from the offender program PLUS, or Purposeful Living Unit Serviced. Portage Man Goes Back to Jail for Curfew Violation

A Portage man was sent back to jail today for violating terms of his pretrial supervision, regarding a fatal crash earlier this year. On Monday, the South Shore Civil War Memorial Trail will be hosting a ceremony honoring a Valparaiso Civil War veteran who would later go on to become Mayor of Valparaiso. NB I-65 Reopens Near Lowell

In Lake County, northbound I-65 was shut down for more than five hours this morning after troopers say a semi tractor-trailer overturned around 4:30 this morning near the State Road 2 – Lowell exit. Indiana State Police say the truck was hauling barrels of industrial lubricant and there was a lot of cleanup involved. No word at this time if the product itself got onto the roadway. There were no injuries being reported.

Indiana State Police at the Lowell Post say northbound Interstate 65 could be shut down near Lowell until at least 10-o'clock this morning as crews clean up the scene of an overturned semi trailer hauling barrels of lubricant. Police say the accident happened near State Road 2 around 4:30 this morning. No injuries have been reported.

Man Arrested for Alleged Facebook Threats

In Portage, the Times reports a 19-year-old man has been arrested and charged with felony intimidation after allegedly posting threats on Facebook to “go on a rampage” and that “portage people might be dying soon”. The report says the man told police he had no intention of carrying out the threats and did not have an answer when questioned why he didn't stop making the posts after a family member and others asked him to stop.

Wednesday's wintery weather claimed the life of 45 year old Illinois man after his semi was struck in a head-on collision, east of Goodland. The number of confirmed fungal meningitis cases in Indiana is now at 69 according to the Indiana State Department of Health. Spokesman Ken Severson says, at last check, there have a total of seven deaths, four from Indiana, and three from out of state, linked to epidural steroid injections received in Indiana. Traffic heading northbound on I-65 toward Ridge Road and Interstate 80/94 is backing up to a crash reportedly blocking the right hand lane about a quarter-mile south of Ridge Road, according to a traffic tipster. Expect slowing traffic just past 61st Avenue going northbound on I-65. Southbound traffic was unaffected.
