The nation's largest single-day food drive, held the second Saturday of May, is declared a "local" success.  Published reports from the Lake Area United Way said northwest Indiana bested last year's total of 123-thousand-363 pounds by over 8-thousand pounds.   Local letter carriers collected the non-perishable foods during the 20th annual "Stamp Out Hunger" food drive that was held in 10,000 cities and towns in all 50-states. Lake Area United Way's Board Chair, Kay Nelson, says "we want to thank everyone who participated."
