Thanks mainly to several community organizations and area business donations and community support, the first police dog program for Munster Police is about to become a reality. Munster's first K-9 officer has been announced and it will be, Brian Hernandez who recently started six-weeks of training in preparation for his new upcoming partnership, according to http://www.nwitimes.com/ The benefit of the town having its own police dog program is that the K-9 unit is quickly available to assist with drug searches at traffic stops, drug sweeps at our schools, building searches, tracking suspects or missing persons, or demonstrations for the public during community events throughout the year. According to the Munster's website the program will become an extremely valuable part of the department's policing efforts.
