Operators of the South Shore say their trains are running on "green power", thanks to a partnership with Merrillville-based Northern Indiana Public Service Company. As of Monday, Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District says all forty-one daily trains are being powered exclusively by renewable energy -- primarily wind and solar. The utility is buying six-weeks of renewable energy certificates for the train system that represent proof that the power is generated by a renewable resource. The companies says there's no cost increase to passengers or NIPSCO customers
