Thousands of Region residents are without power today, as another day of exteme heat is forecast for northwest Indiana. Here's some information from the cities of Gary and Hobart this morning. NIPSCO also has a link to Cooling Center information: www.nipsco.com/outagecenter
There were nearly nine-thousand outages across the city of Gary. The city has announced they're partnering with the Gary Community School Corporation, the Calumet Township Trustee's Office and NIPSCO to set up cooling centers to help those without power, and these centers will be open starting this morning at 7 thru Thursday [July 26th] at noon:
West Side High School
9th & Gerry
Gary Area Career Center
1800 East 35th Avenue
Calumet Township Trustee's Multi-Purpose Center
1900 West 41st Avenue
Those will be in addition to Gary's Public Safety Facility at 555 polk street, which is open 24 hours, and Borman Square Pavilion on Madison Street, open monday thru friday 9 to 2.

Recent storms have left several areas without power in Hobart and high temperatures are expected in the city... The city sent out an alert this morning to let residents know the Hobart Police, Court, and Community Center at 705 E. 4th Street has been designated as a Cooling Center. City officials are urging residents to utilize this facility if they are without power or need assistance during extreme weather conditions. Residents are also asked to monitor friends, neighbors, and other family members. Pets should also be cared for properly by keeping them in a cool location out of direct sunlight and by providing fresh cool water often. 9-1-1 should only be used in the event of an emergency. However, residents with questions may call 219-942-1125.
