A bank teller apparently thwarted an attempted bank robbery in Munster Wednesday morning. At around 11:30am police responded to a call of an attempted bank robbery attempt at the TCF Bank inside the Jewel on Ridge road in Munster. The bank teller told police that a man presented a note implying he had a gun and demanded the teller hand over money. The teller then told the suspect that the bank had not yet opened and that there was no money in the teller drawers. The man then walked away and fled the area before police officers arrived. Police say they believe that the same person robbed the 5th/3rd Bank in Hammond, about 20-minutes earlier. The suspect is described as being a white male, about 5-foot 10-inches, about 200-pounds, with short black colored hair wearing a blue and white checkered shirt, blue jeans and sunglasses. Police say the suspect was reportedly driving a silver Mitsubishi Diamante.
