A new addition greeting returning students at Merrillville High School will produce power while teaching green energy. The high school school was unable to get a state grant to build a wind turbine and solar panels, but through the efforts of Tracy Hall, a renewable energy expert and member of Electrical Workers Local 697, a solar panel manufacturer donated 100 solar modules so the school could go forward with the solar project, according to http://www.nwitimes.com. An inverter needed to complete the system was also given to the school. Hall says the panels, located on top of a storage building at the school, should produce about 8-thousand kilowatt hours of energy per year.
