The Indiana Department of Labor today released its preliminary annual report on on-the-job deaths. The state says 122 people died from occupational injuries in 2011, one of the lowest recorded since the report’s inception in 1991, but up from the state’s 118 fatalities the year before. Indiana Department of Labor Commissioner Lori Torres says the three-percent increase in workplace fatalities “strongly suggests” there is much more work to do in the area of workplace safety at all levels, including government, businesses, and employees alike.  Findings include – Agriculture and mining saw a drop of thirty-three percent in fatalities, from 24 to 16 and manufacturing fatalities decreased from 14 to 13, but. truck transportation deaths increased by 54 percent, from 13 in 2010 to 20 in 2011.
