LaPorte County Sheriff Michael Mollenhauer says a "mini-riot" that broke out in a cellblock Friday night can be attributed to a lack of funding that has resulted in overcrowding at the county jail. Inmates refusing to lockdown into their cells were brought under control, Mollenhauer says, confronted by deputies with tasers and pepper spray. The sheriff says an entire floor of the jail had to close after the county council voted against funding overtime pay.
