The scoreboard operator could barely keep up during last Friday's record-breaking high school football game at Demaree Stadium in Merrillville. The host Merrillville Pirates defeated the Valparaiso Vikings by a final score of 66-41. The game included 15 touchdowns and one field goal. There were 43 first downs, 644 rushing yards and 585 passing yards between the two teams. The two teams also set a new state record for total yards in game with 1,229. Merrillville is now 6-1 on the season and leading the Duneland Conference. Valparaiso is now 2-5 on the season.
