The Indiana Department of Transportation is reminding Region drivers to slow down and allow extra time for your Monday morning commute. Snow has been falling across the Region, making roads slick.   INDOT crews have already been treating roadways for the past two days as total snowfalls are expected to bring 3-6 inches to the northern half of the INDOT LaPorte District; the southern counties in the district will see 1-3 inches, according to the latest outlooks.  Some areas by Lake Michigan could see locally higher amounts with lake effect.
INDOT is reminding drivers to accelerate gradually, drive slowly, brake early, and allow greater distance behind the vehicle ahead. Some drivers may find themselves sharing the roadway with INDOT plows. INDOT asks motorists to give snow plows room to operate. Don’t tailgate or try to pass. Around noon windy conditions are expected to cause blowing snow. Additionally, colder temperatures increase the time needed for salt to melt snow and ice. 
INDOT will continue to monitor developing forecasts, as well as a statewide network of road and bridge pavement sensors, to deploy the needed personnel, equipment, and materials ahead of any predicted accumulation. INDOT’s top winter priority is to plow and treat its more than 30,000 lane miles of interstates, U.S. highways, and state routes.
