Alternative sources of energy may soon be coming to a Portage school near you. According to the Times, Superintendent, E. Ric Frataccia told the school board that it's time to join the alternative energy game noting that other school districts are moving in that direction. The article says school officials have checked out a windmill at North Newton High School that reportedly lowers the winter utility bill to 20-dollars a month, and the solar collectors recently installed on the roof of the Porter County Career and Technical Center. The superintendent says Portage schools have plenty of roof space to utilize and that he would like consult with the company leading the industry in storing solar energy—a company that recently located it's U.S. headquarters in Portage, according to the article.
