With temperatures near 90 Saturday Morning On EC Central's Football Field over 200 athletes from East Chicago, Whiting, and Hammond :”Chose to be a Winner” and participated in the 2012 Tri-City Special Games. The games got their start over 34 years ago with the first event at Roosevelt High School in 1977 and have gotten bigger as the years have passed. This year there were hundreds of volunteers on hand to help cheer on the athletes as they competed in different track and field events.
At the end of the day, the athletes celebrated their gold medals with snow cones, lunch and a dance party. After spending the day with some extraordinary athletes, I can say I am living the motto: "Get involved, become inspired.". Congratulations to all the athletes and thank you for being role models in our community! (A big thanks to Brandon, who didn't laugh at me when I couldn't keep up with him running the dash!)
Be sure to check out pictures in the Tri-City Special Games Gallery!
