CROWN POINTS HOMETOWN FESTIVAL DAYS CONTINUES THIS WEEKEND
On Friday, the festivities fire up again with the newly combined three-day Taste of the Region and the 38th annual Arts and Crafts Festival around the Old Lake County Courthouse.
More than 80 arts-and-crafters take over the lawn of the old courthouse while more than 40 restaurants and caterers serve their specialties on the surrounding streets. Taste hours are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. June 24.
At 6 p.m. Friday, the Marriage Mill Celebration on the courthouse east steps pays homage to Crown Point’s unique position as the place to tie the knot from 1915 to 1940. With no blood tests or waiting periods required, celebs from Rudolph Valentino to Ronald Reagan were among those 175,000 couples who flocked to the city to say “I do."
FEEL LIKE CANOEING?
Families are invited for a paddling/hiking day from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Robinson Lake. Learn the basics of canoing and kayaking such as getting in an out of the watercraft, how to launch, paddling techniques and water safety from experienced paddlers.
