Born in Northwest Indiana, Laura's a graduate of River Forest High School (home of the Ingots) and got her bachelor's degree from Purdue and a master's from Indiana University [we think she roots for both even when they play each other].

Her work has won several awards from the Indiana Broadcasters Association, Society of Professional Journalists/Indiana Chapter, and Network Indiana. She has also had academic papers selected for presentation at national conferences like the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication and Broadcast Education Association.

Laura watched her share of game shows growing up and one summer while in California, she's chosen to be a contestant on "Sale of the Century". Her TV favorites include The Honeymooners, Project Runway, Seinfeld, The Big Bang Theory, Doctor Who and Star Trek (TNG and the original). She also enjoys crossword puzzles and when asked what some of her favorite places to visit are she says -- office supply stores.

Ind Dept of Homeland Sec: Don't Forget About Pets During Winter Storms

Animal Corner

The Indiana Department of Homeland Security says during a winter storm, it may be easy to forget the needs of pets. However, companion animals, especially those who are kept outdoors, should frequently be checked on to ensure their safety. If pets are kept outdoors, provide them with a form of shelter. Heated shelters, such as garages, are preferable.

Give pets fresh water frequently, and have a heat source, if possible, to prevent freezing. Monitor indoor pets when letting them outside. Pets can get cold quickly, so limit their exposure outdoors. Cover their paws and other exposed skin if possible.

Shovel a path for pets to go outside, especially small pets that may have difficulty in deep snow. State officials say if you come upon a cold dog, warm him or her up slowly then get the dog to a veterinarian, if possible, immediately.

Ind Board of Animal Health Urges Caution for Animals in Cold

Animal Corner

The Indiana Board of Animal Health (BOAH) reminds pet owners to be especially sensitive to their animals’ limits when outside. Most pets cannot tolerate more than 20 minutes outside when the temperature drops below zero. Be sure to provide a sheltered place for outdoor pets and make sure they have fresh water. Use a heater for water or change the supply frequently.
