Bio-Tech Meets the Dunes

The Department of Natural Resources took the wraps off of their new wastewater treatment plant at the Indiana Dunes State Park in Chesterton, Wednesday morning. The plant uses new bio-technology developed by an Indiana-based company and actually uses another “plant” --algae-- to treat the wastewater.  The new facility is expected to use 75 percent less energy than the previous plant, which was more than 40-years old and required costly yearly maintenance, according to a published report from the DNR.
