Commissioner of the Northwestern Indiana Regional Planning Commission and Munster Clerk-Treasurer Dave Shafer accepted the role of President of the National Association of Regional Councils at their 46th annual conference in Florida this week. NIRPC (nerp-see) says Shafer is the first Indiana official to hold this national position. NARC is a membership organization comprised of and representing the interests of councils of governments, metropolitan planning organizations and regional councils in the United States. Commissioner Shafer has represented the Town of Munster on the NIRPC governing board since 1992.
