Stormy Early, 3600+ Lose Power

At about 6:30 this morning, Northern Indiana Public Service Company was reporting more than 36-hundred outages... mostly in Gary, Lake Station and Merrillville. The number of customers losing electricity jumped to more than eight-hundred in Valparaiso and about two-hundred in Portage within the 5-o'clock hour.  There were more than 700 outages in Hammond and just over 300 in Knox.

Two Kankakee Valley REMC substations in Porter County experienced a transmission feed failure, causing members in the Kouts and Lakes of Four Seasons to lose power. Crews were dispatched to the substations and power was restored by 7 am.
