Three firefighters and three residents were reportedly injured in an apartment fire that broke out Friday afternoon in a 4-story apartment building in the 700 block of 35th Avenue in Gary. Published reports say firefighters arrived around 4 o'clock and battled heavy smoke and flames which penetrated all four floors. Most residents got out of the building on their own however one woman reportedly jumped from an upper floor, landing on the ground, she, along with the other injured persons were transported to a hospital, reports say. The fire was brought under control in about an hour and an investigation continues to determine the cause.
