Two Lake County Sheriffs Police officers are being commended for their heroic actions. Responding to a house fire in the 43-hundred block of West 45th Avenue near Gary Thursday night, Officer Amber Thomas entered the fully-engulfed home and pulled a 28-year-old man and his 80-year-old grandfather to safety. Officer Mike Stewart went into the garage to find two dogs who were trapped inside, performing C-P-R on one of them, a Husky mix, and that dog was able to pull through. Police say the second dog suffered smoke inhalation and did not survive. Crews from Lake Ridge and surrounding fire departments were among those responding.
