In Merrillville... Dyer Construction Company is scheduled to close part of 73rd Avenue from Taft Street/Route 55 near Arthur Boulevard for up to two weeks starting today (Monday, October 8th) for work in connection with the Taft Street drainage improvement project. The area affected is a small portion of 73rd Avenue going east from Taft.  Merrillville Stormwater Utility Executive Director Matt Lake says the drainage project includes creation of two detention ponds,to alleviate flooding that's occurred the past several years on Taft Street and some areas of the Independence Hill subdivision.
