The United Way of Valparaiso is asking community members to make an impact during the upcoming tax season by becoming an I-R-S certified volunteer. The United Way reports the Volunteer Tax Assistance Program, or VITA, have helped nearly 500 residents in LaPorte, Porter, and Starke Counties, whose adjusted gross income is 50-thousand dollars or less, or are either disabled or elderly. An open house is scheduled for those interested on Thursday, October 20^th, at 6pm, at the United Way of Porter County, located at 951 Eastport Centre Road in Valparaiso. As a volunteer tax preparer you will receive free training and certification, have flexibility based on your schedule, all training and materials are free, and there no prior tax preparation experience is necessary.
