Due to the exponential growth of people joining the Valparaiso YMCA, 10-thousand in two-years, the non-profit has decided to collaborate with Methodist Hospitals as its new Healthcare Engagement Partner. Valparaiso Family YMCA CEO Bob Wanek says Methodist's charitable reputation as a non-profit fits very well with the Y's mission of great quality service. Wanek says this partnership is important for getting funding for future services and that the Valparaiso facility was designed for this type of partnership. Wanek says the services offered, like screenings, risk assessments, rehabilitation, physical therapy, alternative medicine, and physician offices, will be implemented over time, with a majority of them being on-site, but with the Y's 50 different corporate members, they would like to offer off-site service programs as well, if they are interested, with things like a preventative care and/or health screenings, over the next year.
