Valparaiso Mayor Jon Costas is headed to China next week. The city says the nine-day trip to Jiaxing will be part of an outreach program for Valparaiso-based Lumenus USA, which Mayor Costas co-founded. Officials say the Lumenus USA Institute for Global Citizenship at Valparaiso University provides transitional training services for Chinese high school graduates, offering them a year of intensive immersion in the US to help them better succeed in an American university setting. The city say the trip is privately funded through Lumenus USA. The city also says Mayor Costas will be in daily contact with City Hall and will share his experiences on the city’s Facebook page, Valparaiso Now.
