A 19 year old Westville man was airlifted to South Bend Memorial Hospital today with life-threatening head injuries after losing control of his vehicle and crashing into a semi this morning. Indiana State Police report Luke McCormick was going too fast for the existing snow covered roadway, while heading west on I-94, just west of the Burns Harbor exit, when he spun out into the middle lane in front of a semi. Authorities report the semi struck the passenger side of McCormick's vehicle, causing the semi to jack-knife, with the car still attached to its front end. Both vehicles then went off the roadway, through a fence, down a ditch, and almost came out onto an access road at the bottom. State Police report the semi driver was not injured.
Meanwhile the Times reports area law enforcement throughout the Region responded to multiple slide-off and spin-out accidents throughout the morning hours, but nothing resulting in any serious injuries.
