In Gary, police say a 19-year-old carjacking suspect was shot by the vehicle's owner Thursday afternoon while allegedly trying to steal the car near 37th and Connecticut Street. Published reports say when the owner told the suspect to get out of his vehicle, the teen reportedly reached inside his coat, and that's when the car owner fired.
