Officials continue to try to determine the cause of a fire that destroyed a number of businesses in downtown East Chicago Saturday evening. East Chicago Mayor Anthony Copeland tells the Times the only known was to a firefighter who was struck by a shifting fire hose. Fire crews responded around 4:30 that afternoon to a commercial building that housed a recycling company, auto glass shop, and other businesses. The structure reportedly covers half a block at Tod and Chicago Avenues.
