The Jasper County Commissioners have requested that the County map be downgraded and returned to "Orange" - a watch. According to the Indiana Department of Homeland Secuirty County Travel County map, motorists in an "orange" status county should still restrict non-essential travel and remain cautious of road conidtions.
Shortly around 10:20 this morning, in an effort to reach those who may have been stranded due to the Region's most recent snow event, the Jasper County Commissioners had requested that all travel be suspended through the county until further notice. That "notice" came about four hours later.
Karen Wilson, Jasper County Emergency management Director says the stop travel order was issued so plows and other emergency response can get through and help motorists, abandoned vehicles and clear roadways.
Wilson says whenever the travel status of Jasper County is at the "Red" level all travel is prohibited except in the cases of immediate emergencies, which is enforceable by the Jasper County Sheriff's office.
