A LaPorte man has been charged with one-count of felony battery for assaulting a police officer early this morning. LaPorte Police report they responded to the 15-hundred block of Lincolnway, just before 12:30am, to investigate an accident in which the driver abandoned his vehicle after it went into a snow bank. Police report the driver, 46 year old Wayne Summerlin, was located walking in front of the Goodwill store, who informed officers he was attempting to find someone to pull him out.
Police say after a tow truck was summoned, Summerlin asked officers for a ride to his ex-wife's home, but after arriving at the location police were informed he was not welcome to stay. Authorities say when they told Summerlin the news he started yelling and refused to calm down. When officers attempted to place him into custody, the 46 year old allegedly began to resist and kicked one officer in the knee.
