'Canstruction' Kicks Off, Will Help Feed the Hungry

superheroes 2

Congressman Pete Visclosky joined members of United Way and others at Ivy Tech in Valparaiso today to kick off the design phase of the first-ever “Superheroes Against Hunger” Canstruction event in northwest Indiana. Middle-schoolers from throughout Lake and Porter Counties will use science, math and engineering skills to build structures made entirely out of cans of food. Visclosky said a lot of people will benefit in different ways, from helping to feed the hungry in northwest Indiana to involving young people being creative and using science and tech skills to help them understand they can help others while doing that.  The canned food will be purchased through business sponsorships, and the structures will be built and on display to be voted on at Southlake Mall, and eventually those same cans will go to the Food Bank of Northwest Indiana for distribution to local pantries.
