Gov Issues Statement on Officers Killed in Line of Duty

Indiana Governor Mike Pence Sunday issued the following statement regarding three Indiana law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty in the past week. The Governor will order flags lowered in each officer’s county of residence on the day of his funeral service.

“It is with heavy hearts that we mourn the two Indiana police officers killed in the line of duty in the last 24 hours. The deaths of Indianapolis Metro Police Officer Perry Renn and Gary Metropolitan Police Officer Jeffrey Brady Westerfield follow last week’s death of Tipton County Deputy Sheriff Jacob Calvin, whose funeral will be held Monday. On behalf of the First Lady and Hoosiers everywhere, I extend our deepest condolences and prayers to those who knew these officers as family members, friends, colleagues and neighbors.”

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Officer Perry Renn, 51, died Saturday night, July 5th. Officials say Officer Renn was shot and killed after he and another officer exchanged gunfire with a suspect.  Sheriffs Deputy Jacob Calvin, 31, of Kempton was killed in an on-duty crash June 28th.

Funeral services are today for Deputy Calvin, and the funeral procession will be as follows:

• Leave Carroll High School and travel east on SR 18
• North on CR 300E
• West on CR 100N
• South on SR 75
• East on Main Street

The funeral for Deputy Calvin is set to begin at 11:00 a.m. EDT on Monday, July 7th at Carroll High School in Flora, with the procession to the Maple Lawn Cemetery to begin shortly after its conclusion. Citizens are asked to plan their travel in advance and to be patient and respectful as the procession makes its way through the route of travel. Volunteer fire personnel will be placed at numerous intersections along the route to help close intersections and re-route traffic as necessary.

A memorial fund has been established through the Tipton County Foundation for the “Calvin K-9 Fund”. Donations may be sent to the Foundation located at 1020 W. Jefferson Street, Tipton, Indiana 46072. Questions about the fund may be directed to the Foundation at (765) 675-8480.
