Porter County Coroner Chuck Harris says a 33-year-old Chesterton man is dead after crashing his motorcycle at approximately 3:30 this morning on County Road 875 North, just east of State Road 149. Portage Police Public Information Officer Sgt. Keith Hughes says the Portage Police Department responded to a report of a reckless driver on a motorcycle, but there was no pursuit involved, and no lights or sirens. Police say the motorcyclist was quite a distance away. Officials say the motorcyclist then went past Porter County officers who were stopped on a traffic stop. Portage Police say when both departments located the motorcyclist, they found he had already crashed, and Harris says the man was pronounced dead at the scene. Update: Porter County Sheriffs Police Public Information Officer Sgt. Larry LaFlower says evidence at the scene indicated that the driver of the motorcycle, identified as 33-year-old Timothy Gajdik of Chesterton, left the south side of the roadway on County Road 875 North east of State Road 149 and struck a tree at a high rate of speed. Police continue to investigate.
