With temperatures Thursday to be in triple digits, people who work outside need to take extra precautions. While stressing the fact that heat-related illness is 100% preventable, Jeff Carter Indiana's Deputy Commission of Labor for I-OSHA says that direct exposure to sunlight could add as much as 15 degrees onto the heat index. So, if the heat index is at 104, it could feel like 119 degrees. Carter advises three simple steps to reduce the likelihood of heat-related illnesses drink plenty of water (workers outside should drink five to seven ounces of fluids every 15 to 20 minutes), rest and seek shade whenever possible.
