A ten-mile stretch of Interstate 65 in Jasper County was closed for hours Saturday after a combination of fog and smoke preceded crashes on both side of the highway, killing one person and injuring several others from six different states. Indiana State Police report motorists advised visibility was poor, less than thirty feet, due to heavy fog and smoke apparently coming from a nearby hay fire. A 69-year-old Frankfort, Indiana, man was pronounced dead at the scene in a series of crashes that occurred around 7a in the northbound lane, involving thirteen vehicles just a few miles south of the Demotte/Roselawn exit. Six vehicles collided on the southbound side in the same area about fifteen minutes later, and two other vehicles reportedly collided in a separate crash.
