A 66 year old Valparaiso man was sentenced to 14 years in prison Friday for killing a road service worker in 2010. The Times reports Jeffery Cleary was convicted on two felony and three misdemeanor drunk driving charges in the death of 63 year old Philip Amsden. Published reports say the verdict came on the 9th day of Cleary's retrial, and that he faced a maximum of 20 years in prison. According to the Times, Amsden was fixing a flat tire on a semitrailer, parked on the shoulder of I-65, south of Ridge Road, when Cleary's SUV struck Amsden's pick up, crushing him between the pickup and the semitrailer.
