An as of yet unidentified Michigan man was shot and killed this morning at a home in LaPorte County's Hudson Township. The LaPorte County Sheriff's Office reports dispatch received a call at approximately 9:15 this morning from a homeowner stating his home, in the 67-hundred East block of County Road One-thousand North, had been burglarized, and that he had shot the intruder. Upon arrival, authorities say they found the intruder, from Three Oaks Township, dead due to a single gunshot wound to the chest. Investigators report the deceased entered the home through a rear window he had shattered, which awoke the sleeping homeowner. The homeowner, armed with a pistol, got into a physical altercation with the intruder, who was armed with a hatchet, until the homeowner shot him, and then called 9-1-1. The Sheriff's Office reports the deceased did not know the homeowner, and an investigation continues.
