HOBART KIWANIS FOOD DRIVE
Hobart Kiwanis is having a food drive on Oct. 13 on behalf of the Hobart Food Pantry. Hobart residents are asked to place food in bags by their front door or mailbox. Kiwanis members will pick up the donations with help from Hobart High School Key Club, Builders Club and Junior ROTC unit. For more information, call Larry Barrasas at (219) 510-5305.
MUNSTER COPS AND KIDS NEEDS HELP
The Munster Police Department is seeking donations through October and November toward its annual Cops and Kids holiday shopping program. Each December, Munster police officer take pre-selected families shopping for clothing and holiday gifts with donated funds from residents, businesses and community service organizations. Last year, more than 60 children were helped through the program.
To make a donation, make checks payable to the town of Munster (memo line: Cops and Kids) and mail them to the Munster Police Department, c/o Officer James Ghrist, 1001 Ridge Road, Munster, IN., 46321.
MAKING STRIDES VALPO EVENT

BENEFIT FOR WEST NILE VICTIM
A benefit is scheduled to assist a LaPorte man still on a ventilator after contracting West Nile virus. According to family members, Ronald Lawson, 65, is improving in his recovery but remains on a breathing machine at a Mishawaka hospital. Saturday's benefit will feature events such as a garage sale and bake sale and takes place at the First Apostolic United Pentecostal Church, 1930 Boyd Blvd., on LaPorte's southeast side. Huffman said there will also be a spaghetti dinner along with elephant ears, fudge and pumpkin rolls for sale. The benefit will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

For Laporte County Special Olympic Athletes.
October 20th from 5pm-2am
Benefit is at Waterford Inn 6466 W Johnson Rd Laporte
Prior to the benefit there will be a poker run. All money will be used to send the athletes down state, pay for uniforms and other misc. costs that they may occur.
