In Lake County, the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) is advising motorists of lane closures on State Road 51 starting on or after September 30, 2024, in preparation for a project to replace the bridge over Interstate 94 in Lake Station. A news release says State Road 51 will be reduced to one lane in each direction through mid-November 2024 and there will be shoulder closures on some of the ramps at this interchange, but all ramps will remain open and accessible. Officials noted that this is pre-work and afterwards there will be no restrictions in place until spring 2025. Travelers are advised to expect changing traffic patterns and travel delays during peak times. The extensive bridge replacement project will be ongoing through 2026, INDOT said.
