In Chesterton, fire crews rescue a family of ducklings on Mother’s Day. A post at the town’s Facebook page says Chesterton Fire got the call shortly before 10 am Sunday, several baby ducks stuck in a drain on Carrick Lane, not far from a pond in the Estates of Sand Creek. The news release said Firefighter Justin Lewis lowered himself into the drain and lifted out the ducklings one by one to Firefighter Marc Mihalik, and Engineer Heather Compton placed them in a tub until they were ready to be returned to their mother. According to the town, the fire department wrapped up the report with a holiday message to moms everywhere: “Ten baby ducks were rescued from the storm drain and reunited with their mother. Happy Mother’s Day.”
