Indiana Dunes National Park Announces Talks on Native Plants

In Porter County, the Indiana Dunes National Park invites Region residents to “Grow your plant knowledge and plan out your own native flower garden while you learn about the diverse plant life that grows throughout the Indiana Dunes. Renowned botanists Steve Sass and Nate Scheerer will be sharing their expertise at the Indiana Dunes Visitor Center during two different programs.”

On Saturday, May 27, 2023, from 10am-11:30am, Scheerer will talk about plants that are native to the area and how they can be incorporated into your own landscaping.

Then, on Sunday, May 28, 2023, from 1pm-2:30pm, join Sass to celebrate the botanical treasures of the Indiana Dunes. Learn about plant communities and their essential role in the web of life, the park said.

These two programs are sponsored by Friends of Indiana Dunes, who are holding their 27th Annual Native Plant Sale on June 3, 2023. Preorders are strongly encouraged. For more information visit www.dunefriends.org for an order form.

The Indiana Dunes Visitor Center is located on North State Road 49, about one mile north of Interstate 94.
