Manatee Feeding Program on Hold

An effort to save starving manatees is currently on hold. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) recently announced it’s suspending its manatee feeding program. Since the program started, the FWC fed over 200-thousand pounds of lettuce to manatees, but with warmer weather, they hope manatees will be able to find their own food sources. Manatee deaths since December were less than the year before, but a veterinarian tells 10 Tampa Bay they’ll need to evaluate the data to see if the feeding program is the reason why.
