First Day Hike at Indiana Dunes State Park

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources invites the public to ring in the New Year with a First Day Hike. Several are being offered January 1st at Indiana’s state parks, forests, and lakes including locally Indiana Dunes State Park. Participants are asked to meet at the Nature Center for a 2-mile moderate to rugged loop along Trail 9 from 10 a.m. to noon CT on January 1, 2023. See the park landscapes and learn about park history; snacks will be provided by the Friends of the Indiana Dunes. The hikes are organized by Indiana State Parks in cooperation with America’s State Parks and will take place in all 50 states. The news release also said First Day Hikes originated more than 20 years ago at a state park in Milton, Massachusetts. “First Day Hikes are a healthy way to start 2023,” said the Indiana DNR. “They offer a chance to get outside, exercise, enjoy nature, and connect with friends. Nearly all state parks and lakes, as well as some state forests, will offer hikes. Find one near you at on.IN.gov/INStateParkEvents .”
