Valpo Compost Site to Begin Saturday Off-Season Hours January 10

The Recycling and Waste Reduction District of Porter County says the Valparaiso compost site on West Lincolnway will begin Saturday off-season hours on January 10th for Porter County residents to dispose of their once live Christmas trees, wreaths and other organic holiday decorations.  The 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday hours will continue through March 28, 2015. The site may close at any time due to inclement weather. The site will open for the season on March 30.  Ornaments and lights must be removed from trees before recycling.  Residents can also recycle unwanted electronics at the compost site as well as cell phones, household batteries and fluorescent light bulbs.    The Boone Grove compost site will remain closed through March 30, 2015, when it will open for the season.  For more information on the public compost sites, visit the District’s website, www.itmeanstheworld.org, or call 219-465-3694
