Application Options for Energy Assistance Program

Applications are being taken for the Energy Assistance Program (EAP) in Indiana, officially opening on November first. This season, the Porter County Aging and Community Services (PCACS) team and EAP volunteers will not be scheduling appointments as the office remains closed to the public due to COVID, but volunteers and staff are available for questions about the income-eligible program by telephone at 219-464-9736, Option 1.

Those needing help can visit to download an application. Once it is printed out and completed, it can be left in the drop box in the PCACS lobby between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Completed applications can also be mailed to the Porter County Aging and Community Services on Campbell Street in Valparaiso. Those needing to pick up a paper copy to fill out will find them in the PCACS lobby.

Applications may be filled out and delivered now but will not be processed until November 1. Officials say community members with a disconnect notice should make other arrangements while waiting for the application to process by contacting their energy company and continuing payments. The income-eligible program continues to assist those struggling to pay their energy bills. Once participation is approved, a payment is made directly to the energy company.

“We understand how important this program is to our community members in need,” said PCACS Executive Director Bruce Lindner. “We have put together options to continue the application process in a safe manner to ensure those who need help still receive it.”

PCACS’ mission is to extend a helping hand to seniors, those with disabilities and low-income residents by providing services to improve their quality of life, including transportation, energy and emergency assistance, Section 8 and ramp programs. For more information, visit .
