Chesterton Students World-Record Attempt at ‘Dunes Day’

Some Chesterton High School Students are shooting for a world record. The attempt will highlight the Indiana Dunes National Park’s second “Dunes Day” field trip. If over 1,872 students participate, it will break the Guinness World Record for “largest field trip in the world”. Students and staff hope the idea will get more students outdoors to learn from nature and to celebrate the recently earned distinction of the Indiana Dunes becoming America’s 61st national park.

Teachers and National Park Service staff will lead various activities throughout the park, including natural sculpturing, collecting and testing water samples, and looking at the effects of tourism on the local economy. Dunes Day II is being supported in part by the National Park Service and many of its partners in collaboration with Chesterton High School and the Duneland School Corporation.
