2017 was ushered out in LaPorte County by nearly a foot of lake effect snow, and there’s more to come. The National Weather Service Northern Indiana say two lake effect snow bands affected northern Indiana and southwestern lower Michigan, with the stronger of the two coming onshore and impacting LaPorte County Sunday afternoon. Meteorologists report snowfall rates of more than two-inches-an-hour, and some areas saw as much as or just a little more than a foot of snow. Officials say the heavy lake effect snow resulted in an 18 vehicle crash on the Indiana Toll Road near the LaPorte-St. Joseph county line Sunday afternoon. A Winter Weather Advisory that includes LaPorte and St. Joseph counties says those same two counties could see several more inches of lake effect tomorrow through Thursday evening.
