Valparaiso Announces Trick-or-Treating Will be Held

In Valparaiso, the city has announced it will be hosting trick-or-treating on Halloween night, Saturday, October 31 from 5:30 to 7:30 pm, rain or shine. “Trick-or-treat night is a highlight of childhood and we’re confident that parents and the community can make it a fun and safe evening,” said Valparaiso Mayor Matt Murphy. The city also encourages parents to supervise their trick or treaters, making sure they’re visible and dressed so they can see out and not trip over costumes. The COVID-19 pandemic means that parents will also want to exercise caution in choosing the size of their trick-or-treat group and make sure kids wash hands frequently and before they consume the treats they collect, the announcement said.

“As always, we recognize that handing out treats is optional, and some residents may not wish to participate,” said Murphy. The city reminds that trick or treaters should not visit homes with
their porch lights off. The city is also providing a coloring page that residents may post if they want to indicate that they’ll be welcoming trick or treaters. Find the page here at the City of Valparaiso website’s Community Engagement page or stopping by Valparaiso City Hall from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday.
