Draft Master Plan Presentation for Downtown Hammond

In Hammond, city officials say residents are invited to attend the highly-anticipated presentation of a draft Master Plan for the downtown by best-selling author, city planner and urban designer Jeff Speck. It follows his initial visit to Hammond last fall and another this past May. The Mayors Office says it will include designs for a transformed Hohman Avenue and more walkable street network, development concepts for unbuilt parcels and retrofit ideas for historic buildings, as well as plans to integrate commuter rail. Tonight’s presentation//Tuesday, August 6th is at the Towle Theater on Hohman at 6 pm, doors open at 5:30 pm. “This new transportation component in downtown adds strength to this area, which has struggled for years. Having people looking to live downtown and make it their home is a game-changer for Hammond and the Region. We are thinking big and are already getting interest from developers,” said Hammond Mayor Thomas McDermott, Jr.
