In Valparaiso, the Transit Department has introduced six new digital solar-powered signs placed at major bus stops throughout the city. They provide route and real-time bus arrival data along with local news and events. Officials say the signs, made by Soofa, are being used by smart cities coast to coast. Transit and Planning Director Beth Shrader says the signs also make riding the V-Line even more convenient. The signs are funded primarily through a grant through the Northwestern Indiana Regional Planning Commission (NIRPC). A city news release also says ultimately ad space on the signs may generate additional funding to support transit.
