The Alzheimer’s Association Greater Indiana Chapter is hosting a free, in-person Research Updates program at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Michigan City Tuesday, April 19,2022, from 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. Central time. The program will include information about the latest facts and figures regarding Alzheimer’s and other dementias, modifiable and non-modifiable risk factors and why early detection and diagnosis are important. Attendees will learn about biomarkers, why they are needed and some of the ways biomarkers are used in dementia research. They will also hear about the latest advances in clinical trials, treatments and lifestyle interventions.
“Some of the most common questions we receive from the people we serve are about research,” said Julie Collins, Northwest Indiana Program Manager for the Greater Indiana Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association. “There are so many exciting advancements happening when it comes to diagnosing, treating and preventing Alzheimer’s and other dementias, and this is a great opportunity for the community to come together to learn about these advancements.” You can hear more from Collins in Region Newsmakers at News Audio on Demand here at our website.
According to the recently-released Alzheimer’s Association 2022 Alzheimer’s Disease Facts and Figures report, about 110,000 Hoosiers age 65 and older are currently living with Alzheimer’s disease. Another 216,000 are serving as unpaid family caregivers. Nationwide, deaths due to Alzheimer’s disease between 2000 and 2019 more than doubled, increasing 145%.Registration for the Research Updates program is encouraged but not required to attend.
